Upcoming study needs participants to evaluate the effects of vitamin D on type 2 diabetes and heart disease

Researchers from University of Chester are calling for male participants to take part in a randomized controlled trial which will evaluate the impact of vitamin D supplements on heart disease and diabetes.

The researchers are seeking healthy men between the ages of 18 and 65 from Chester, England. The study will assess whether vitamin D supplementation for 8 weeks reduces the risk of contracting type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure in men who are vitamin D deficient.

All participants must go to an eligibility screening along with three clinics. In return, they will each receive a £25 Amazon gift card and a free dietary analysis.

Researcher and Graduate Assistant, Ellen Freeborn, stated, “Heart disease was reported to have killed 17.5 million people in 2012, it is currently the world’s biggest cause of death according to the World Health Organization.”

“By taking part in this study you will be contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the role of vitamin D in the prevention of heart disease and diabetes, which could potentially lead to the use of the vitamin as a therapy alongside current treatments.”

Interested candidates have until the end of March to register for the trial. If you meet the qualifications and would like to participate, email vitaminDstudy@chester.ac.uk.
