Finnish University apologizes for vitamin D supplement study

A Finnish University publicly apologized for a study they published last week. The researchers reported low levels of vitamin D in many supplements, but now state the testing method they used was unreliable.

The University re-tested the supplements after the food and safety authority found one of the products to be outside the acceptable range of claimed content, within 20% of the advertised amount.

The second time around the University found four manufacturers failed the test. The conflicting results were due to the method of testing the University used, differing from the methods accredited laboratories use when analyzing supplements for manufacturers.

The University has reportedly received one compensation request for the mistake; they have not revealed who filed the request.
