A new study reports mixed findings on the relationship between vitamin D and MS outcomes

A recent study evaluated the relationship between vitamin D status and disease activity in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the study led to more questions rather than answers.

MD magazine wrote an article on the study, explaining the researchers’ findings along with its implications for future research.

  1. Wierd study. They supplemented with vitamin D, but the PDF fails to state the dose size used.

Conclusion says “Disease activity generally improved with higher 25(OH)D” BUT, and this is the important fact, benefits of vitamin D varied with the standard MS treatment which was given.

    PDF is at http://nn.neurology.org/content/2/6/e167.full.pdf+html

  2. I have just read the study on the internet and can’t find (unless I’m missing something) the amount of vitamin D the participants were given and the blood levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D. This would be important because if they are talking about people who all had low levels, the significance would be different. Also, overall it does seem to show a benefit.
