I live in the UK. In February, I had my Vitamin D tested and it was 36.2 nmol/L. I started taking 5,000 IU of D3 daily and was retested 3 months later and my reading was 195.0 nmol/L. I now want to maintain this level and am not sure how much to take. I am thinking of either 1,000 or 2,000 IU daily over the summer but is that likely to be too much or too little?

    Well you did pretty good making it to 195nmol/l (78ng/ml) on only 5000iu. Do you weigh a lot less than 150lbs?
    So it kind of depends on how much summer sun you can get each day, at the right time of day and your skin color.
    Maintaining at an exact level when you throw in summer sunshine is kind of hard to do. My guess, in your case, would be the 2000iu plus summer sun. To be honest it is not a “one size fits all”. Sometimes I tell people not to cut back at all and get 15 minutes of sun. Their levels are usually closer to 125nmol/l and yours are higher. Sometimes I tell people are going to get a lot more than that so they cut way back on their supplements or only take them on rainy/cloudy days.
