Hey, After feeling depressed for 2 years with sleep problems, fatigue, loss of interest in activities, memory issues. I finally decided to do some blood tests. Which showed i have Vitamin D3 deficiency. My house doctor advised me to take daily Vitamin D3 1200 IU supplement in liquid form. 3 drops each day. I have been taking them for 1 month now. No big difference yet. But my house doctor told me it can take up to 3 months before restoring my Vitamin D3 levels. My blood tests showed 7. And Vitamin D levels should be 50? I felt relieved to know the cause for my depression, but now i just have to live with my depressive symtoms for 2 more months before i get better? anything else i can do to speed up the recovery time?

    Welllll how was your D measured as ng/ml or nmol/l because it makes a big difference. You are either extremely deficient OR extremely, extremely deficient! If you do not know, then do you live in the US or another country?
    You are correct that we promote the healthy level of 50ng/ml (125nmol/l). Anything below 40-50 ng/ml and your chances of cancer and autoimmune disease increase a lot.
    You are not taking enough Vitamin D, at all. You need to take more “up front” to get you out of the deficit. I am not a doctor but the standard doctor protocol is to take about 8000iu a day for two months and retest. If your levels are then around 50 or better, then you can probably take 5000iu of Vitamin D a day as maintenance. This is based on a 150lb person and keeping your level at around 50ng/ml. If you weigh a lot more, than you may have to take more. (Let me know if you weigh a lot more.)
    You also need to read http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/. It is very important. Most people do not get enough magnesium in their diets and need to supplement. If you do not get enough, then the D might cause you symptoms. Now you will not find calcium listed there but we all know that calcium is needed for bones. If you are not getting enough calcium in your diet when you start taking the higher amounts of D, you may risk HYPOcalcemia and you do not want to do that. It can be life threatening if calcium levels go to low. Now you are low enough to be in the Osteomalacia range but you are not complaining of bone and or muscle pain which are indications. So you may or may not need the calcium. (I believe part of standard protocol when you are that low is calcium supplements with the D.)
    So if you start the higher amount and get any symptoms you need to tell me! In some people even a small amount can cause HYPERcalcemia. So any symptoms, tell me.
    So to sum up, none of your symptoms are going anywhere unless you take more D!
