The topic of the second episode of the Vitamin D Council podcast is vitamin D and the brain. In this episode, Dr. John Cannell sits down with Dr. David Llewellyn to discuss a recent study he was involved in on the relationship between vitamin D and dementia that was published in the journal Neurology that made headlines.

We also provide a general overview of the research on the effects of vitamin D on neurological and cognitive function and health as well as its role in mental health conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

    Hi Rita,

Are you still having issues listening to the podcast? It seems to play fine in the major browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Explorer). Have you tried downloading or playing in a new window?

If you still are having trouble after trying different browsers, downloading, etc. let me know and I can send you an audio file of the podcast.

  3. Very informative pod cast again. Why WHO is still sleeping in this issue? I think we should leave a message for the attention of WHO on this issue in our web page.

Excellent podcast. I am looking forward to the next one.

Dr. Cannell raises an excellent point. Perhaps different diseases or health conditions respond to different thresholds of vitamin D. To paraphrase John–there appears to be a reduction in breast cancer for those who maintain a 25(OH)D level of around 40 ng/ml; for rickets the level appears to be around 20 ng/ml. In my opinion, we are best off to keep our 25(OH)D level in the range intended by nature–certainly 40 ng/ml — 80 ng/ml would meet this goal.

Jeff and Will–great job as emcees; and Dr. Cannell, I think you did a very nice job of interviewing Dr. Llewellyn. Finally, Dr. Llewellyn was extremely interesting and very well prepared.

Sorry it took as long as it did for me to list to this podcast in its entirety. We’ve had a few health conditions of our own here in my neck of the woods 😉

    Be well,
