New research published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows the potential benefit of vitamin D on the risk of mortality over 13 years in patients with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
Researchers and scientists are still working hard to determine the different ways in which vitamin D can improve health. It is known that vitamin D helps build bones and maintain bone health. What is still uncertain is how vitamin D and how much vitamin D is needed to influence things like cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, cancer, and diabetes.
When research is conducted on this matter, most observational studies and randomized controlled trials find mixed results.
Currently, there isn’t any research that has looked at vitamin D’s role in multiple areas of health throughout the entire course of life. Research that would track vitamin D intake and status and examine their role in health from birth to death would certainly provide a comprehensive view of vitamin D’s effects on human health, however, it would be expensive and very difficult to conduct.
