New comprehensive review determines vitamin D is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease

Using Hill’s criteria for causality to assess the relationship between vitamin D and cardiovascular disease, researchers conclude that vitamin D can be classified as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Hill’s criteria is a set of conditions that if met, leads to the conclusion that a relationship between two events is likely causal, as opposed to just correlative or coincidental. It was created by Sir Austin Bradford Hill who originally used it to determine causality in a biological system.
