Does vitamin D supplementation affect restless legs syndrome?

In an exciting new study, researchers have found for the first time that vitamin D supplements may improve symptoms of restless legs syndrome.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS), or Willis-Ekbom disease, is a chronic disorder in which the limbs involuntarily move or twitch. This condition has been covered in a past blog.

When the causes of RLS are relatively unknown, it is referred to as idiopathic RLS. When RLS is associated with but not caused by other conditions, such as an iron deficiency, diabetes, or multiple sclerosis, it is known as secondary RLS.
