Certain symptoms of multiple sclerosis linked to sun exposure but not vitamin D status

A new study has found that in patients with multiple sclerosis, amount of sun exposure, not vitamin D, may relate to certain neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects 2.5 million people worldwide. MS is an inflammatory autoimmune disease in which the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin sheaths covering the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in a loss of nerve function.

Symptoms vary with the severity of the disease. Some people with severe MS will have problems walking, eating, and talking. Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of MS, affecting about 90% of people with MS.

Neuropsychiatric conditions such as Depression, cognitive impairment, and anxiety may also develop as a result of MS.
